Lucy really is an inspiration and Larry is quite the supporter of her efforts. They make an awesome team and together they are stronger for it. I hope all goes well with their egg this year and they have many more years together.
This is a great close-up of Larry and Lucy's Pip Watch. I don't think we'd miss it when it happens.

Sad news this morning. The egg is gone. They are reviewing the tape but feel like it disintegrated. I feel bad for the kids that had their hopes up for this nest and for the chatters that watched so faithfully.
Lucy was still sitting on the empty nest this morning.

Today is day 42 and it ends here today. The egg was apparently not viable and has disintegrated. There has been a lot of sadness this season in the eagle world, not just with Larry and Lucy. Nature is a harsh at times, but has its own checks and balances. It was a successful nesting season considering what Lucy and Larry have been through. Just think how many people this pair of eagles brought together. How many of you got up each day excited to look into the lives of Larry and Lucy? Many people can identify with Lucy by their own physical limitations.
Eagles4kids would like to thank its loyal audience this season. Larry and Lucy have quite the following. We will continue to monitor Lucy’s condition. We will not say how long the cameras will stay on. That will be decided some time in the future. I have stated in a previous post, the students were informed about this as a possibility. They understand, and will move on as well. We will watch other nests and learn from them. In my opinion I don't think the egg disintegrated. In that video posted, I think the egg has gone down below the nest bowl and will probably disintegrate from there. If you look closely, you can see the white egg down below the grasses. It was surely a sad day for everyone who has followed these two loving eagles. Larry and Lucy are still hanging out at the nest as of today, with Larry fluffing up the nest for Lucy to spend the nights and occasionally bringing her fish. This is truly a heartwarming story of 2 eagles enduring against all odds.

Here are a couple paintings/drawings that Talon shared today on chat. The pencil drawing was done by a man in his hometown and presented to his class yesterday. Said it reminded him of Lucy. The second is a painting by Talon's mom of Larry. I thought they both were excellent and wanted to share them.

Even though there are no young for this pair to raise this year, their bond does not seem to end. The video below shows Larry still taking care of Lucy by uncovering the snow filled nest in the evening so Lucy could have somewhere to sleep and stay warm. The dedication and bond to each other is absolutely awe-inspiring.
This pair really has stolen the hearts of their fans. Me, Peg and SC watched Larry sit on his limb at sunset tonight and then he flew to the nest to fluff up Lucy's bed. They tell me Lucy sleeps on the nest every night and Larry faithfully fluffs her bed and tucks her in. There was panning and a closeup of Lucy's little foot. Breaks my heart.

Elfruler was in chat this evening and here is her take on Larry & Lucy. I think Elf agrees what an incredible pair of eagles these 2 are.
8:54 elfruler: I guess the fact that Lucy clearly could not survive without Larry, and that he does not abandon her but does the opposite -- goes above and beyond -- that is special 8:55 elfruler: I've seen plenty of males be very attentive to the females during nesting season -- bring food right on time, make sure the crib rails are high, soft grasses for the kids,... 8:56 elfruler: feed when the moms let him feed, back off when she won't, totally respect her rule of the roost 8:57 elfruler: this is what male Bald Eagles do. It's just that here, what the female needs from the male is unlike anything I've seen, or I guess anyone has seen. And Larry just steps up
I watched Lucy for a few minutes tonight. She was moving and rearranging sticks on her nest. The chatters were worried because she didn't have any food in the pantry nor have they seen her eat anything on the nest lately. Probably just being worry wart chatters. Chatters were also talking about her talon looking odd on her good foot. I don't know about all that. I think I should stop listening to chatters. Here's a vid from earlier today and a couple of snippys I took from it showing Lucy's foot.
